USC Trojans at (5) Washington Huskies
USC: After their loss to Alabama to open up the season, we all thought it would be a long one for a team that was once on top of the world of college football. They started 1-3 but since then, they’ve won five games in a row and Clay Helton has really impressed me in his first full year as head coach. Helton made a big decision to bench Max Browne and go with Sam Darnold and the redshirt freshman hasn’t disappointed at all. The real star for the Trojans this year has been running back Ronald Jones II and I’m excited to watch him play. I see a little LeSean McCoy in his running style. He sees a hole and he attacks it right away just like Shady does. This is a big game for USC as they get set to face the stacked Huskies of Washington.
Washington: They’ve been unbelievable to watch this year. At 9-0, they are in complete control of their own destiny and tonight, they should get the respect they deserve when the second set of college football playoff rankings releases tonight. I made my case for them last week and Texas A&M went down in an upset to Mississippi State so this opens the door for them. Jake Browning has had an unbelievable season for them and that even continued last weekend against the California Golden Bears. He threw six touchdown passes in their win on Saturday and just keeps making his case as a Heisman candidate. Their offense is set. It’s their defense that I’m worried about. They got some bad news. Senior linebacker Joe Mathis is out for the year with a foot injury that’ll require surgery and since he hasn’t been on the field, they’ve racked up only three sacks. The next man must step up. With a win on Saturday, they would be 10-0.
USC Player To Watch: Deontay Burnett- He brings a lot of speed to their offense and with Schuster seeing so many different looks from the secondary, Burnett will be that other guy that Darnold can throw too. They were both on the same page last week against Oregon. He caught seven passes for 87 yards and scored a touchdown.
Washington Player To Watch: Keishawn Bierria– Even without Mathis on the field, this is still a very good defense. Someone will have to generate that pressure and pass rush on the quarterback. The next man must step up and that can be this young man.
Prediction: These are the two best teams in the conference this year. It’s key that USC starts fast and score points early against this defense. For Washington, keep Darnold in that pocket because he’s had a tough time taking care of the football. I like Washington at home in this one. Washington 44 USC 27.
