Intriguing Game- Week 5
New York Giants (2-2) at Green Bay Packers (2-1)
Giants: After their first two games, I stated on the air that the Giants were a much-improved team and the defense was a better looking unit especially after all the money they spent to revamp it. The last two games, they’ve looked like the Giants we’ve known them to be the last few years. Eli is making some careless throws, the offensive line is soft up front and the defense is still improved, but they need to cut back on the penalties. Also, Odell needs to control his emotions and to this day, I still question the Giants leadership because they don’t have that one veteran in the locker room that can calm things down. If he were playing during the Strahan days, this would be nipped in the bud right away. After the 2-0 start, the Giants have lost their last two and looks to snap the losing streak. It won’t be easy facing the Packers on Sunday night.
Packers: In the opener against the Jaguars, the Packers offense looked to be back and better than ever especially with Jordy Nelson back in the mix after tearing his ACL in 2015. With Nelson, Randall Cobb is able to operate in the slot and personally, that’s where he does his best work is in the middle of that field on the seams. After the Minnesota game, there were questions surrounding their offense and I think everyone was still trying to get acclimated. Before their bye week against the Lions, everything seemed to be just fine. Aaron Rodgers himself has even told everyone to r-e-l-a-x and everything will be just fine. They look more comfortable now on offense moving forward and that could be scary for all defenses. When Rodgers has the time and the weapons surrounding him, watch out. Not only does Aaron looked settled in, Eddie Lacy also seems to be gaining his confidence back as well. They’re off the bye with the Giants coming to town.
Giants Player To Watch: Olivier Vernon– This is why you signed a guy like Olivier Vernon, for games like this and to rush a quarterback like Aaron Rodgers. He’ll need to be on his A game come Sunday night and help generate that pass rush to keep Rodgers in the pocket and not let him buy time to extend the play.
Packers Player(s) To Watch: The Secondary– Sam Shields is their best cover corner and he’s expected to miss this game. The trio of Damarious Randall, Quinten Rollins, and LaDarius Gunter have a very big task ahead of them and that’s defending the Giants receiving trio of Odell Beckham Jr, Victor Cruz, and Sterling Shepard.
Prediction: Eli Manning has never lost at Lambeau Field. As a matter of fact, the two times he’s been there, they were both in January and he eliminated the Packers from the playoffs. This game will also mark the return of Giants head coach Ben McAdoo who was the quarterback’s coach for the Green Bay Packers before leaving to join the Giants coach staff. The Packers are coming off a bye week and ready to roll. In their last game, Rodgers was Rodgers and torched the Lions defense. When everything clicks, all is right for the Packers. I like Green Bay in this one. Packers 31 Giants 21
