(3) Louisville Cardinals vs (5) Clemson Tigers
Louisville: One of the people I do some radio work with was high on the Louisville Cardinals this year and so far, they’ve made him look really good with the hot start they’ve got off too. Lamar Jackson, what else can we say about him and how he’s played so far this year? He’s accounted for 25 total touchdowns this year (13 passing and 12 rushing) and when you think you’ve taken one thing away that he likes to do, he just attacks your defense in another way. Marshall held him to just 62 yards rushing last Saturday. His throwing attack, that couldn’t be stopped. He threw for 417 yards and five touchdown passes. He’s still the favorite to win the Heisman as of now and we saw how he beat Florida State just two weeks ago. If he can get a win over Clemson in Death Valley, this will be his “Heisman moment”.
Clemson: After the season they had in 2015, there was a lot of hype surrounding them coming into this season and for obvious reasons. You have a great quarterback, a coach who was named coach of the year last year and you’re coming off a year where you went to the playoffs and played in the national title game. Although Clemson is 4-0, they haven’t looked all that great from the jumpstart. For starters, the defense misses Kevin Dodd, Shaq Lawson and Mackensie Alexander and it seems as if teams know how to stop and get to Deshaun Watson now. The biggest positive of the offense has been wide receiver Mike Williams. After suffering that neck injury last season, he’s come back and has been very productive along with looking like a much faster and stronger player. This is one of the biggest games of the year for Clemson with Louisville in town for a battle.
Louisville Player(s) To Watch: The trio of Devonte Fields, Jonathan Greenard and James Hearns- I’ll be keeping my eye on these three throughout the game. Louisville has an average defense at best and this trio of linebackers generates a pass rush and stops the run and they’ll have their hands full with Watson and running back Wayne Gallman.
Clemson Player(s) to watch: The offensive line- They’ve been bullied up front pretty much all season. They’ve only given up four sacks but if you watch the gamefilm closely, they have struggle to hold it together in the trenches. It’ll be key that they get off to a good start-up front.
Prediction: What more could you ask for? Number three and Number five and two of the best quarterbacks in the nation battling one another. I’m picking Louisville to win this game on Saturday night. Louisville 37 Clemson 30
