Intriguing Game- Week 2
Kansas City Chiefs (1-0) at Houston Texans (1-0)
Chiefs: They have the longest active winning streak right now in the NFL. 11 straight regular season wins and counting. This dates back to last season and what’s made this more impressive was they did this without Jamaal Charles who tore his ACL last season and missed the opener on Sunday against the San Diego Chargers. In these next few weeks, I’ll be concerned about their defense because there’s no Justin Houston as he’s recovering from knee surgery and without him, they looked really flat when it came to rushing the passer. What I like about Kansas City is they just play football. They don’t run the wildcat offense and they aren’t flashy. I’ve even heard some people refer to them as the “San Antonio Spurs of the NFL” because they don’t make you say WOW, they just go about their business. On Sunday, they’ll look to make it 12 straight wins with a victory in Houston in a playoff rematch.
Texans: Remember when we last saw them play prior to this season opener against the Chicago Bears? It was in the playoffs and they were embarrassed. Everything that could go wrong for them did go wrong in that Wild Card game in January. Bad tackling, lack of pressure, missed gap assignments, miscommunication in the secondary and so much more. But, they made changes in the offseason. They signed Lamar Miller after deciding to release Arian Foster and the biggest move they made was signing Brock Osweiler to a big time contract. I can sit here and say I was impressed with how the Texans looked on Sunday. The offense looked complete and other guys not named Deandre Hopkins stepped up and did their part. Rookie Will Fuller also had a big game in his NFL debut and it was a rocky first half for them, but they stepped it up and made those key adjustments on Sunday to get the win. Now, they’ll look to improve to 2-0 in a playoff rematch.
Chiefs Player To Watch– Tamba Hali: With Justin Houston gone, the pass rush hasn’t been the same. This is where Tamba Hali needs to step it up and get that pressure on Brock Osweiler. The Chiefs as a whole last Sunday against the Chargers only had one sack as a team. It’s time to get that pass rush revved up once again.
Texans Player To Watch– Will Fuller: He had a solid debut on Sunday against the Bears and this Sunday against Kansas City, he’ll have a challenge against facing a much better secondary. This game will tell us if he is capable of being that complementary piece alongside DeAndre Hopkins.
Prediction: This will be the third time these two have met in a span of 19 months. This is a much different team than what the Chiefs saw both those times and that will show. I like the Texans to get their revenge and win this one. Texans 24 Chiefs 17
