NFC Game Of The Week
New York Giants (6-10 in 2015) at Dallas Cowboys (4-12 in 2015)
Giants: When you look at the makeup of their season last year, they lost a majority of those ten games the exact same way and that was late in the fourth quarter with the defense giving up the lead. Coming into 2016, I’m concerned about the Giants because I saw a few of their preseason games and the offense needs another weapon to complement both Eli Manning and Odell Beckham Jr because they aren’t able to do it all and the defense still has work to do. You can sign all the top talent on the market all you want too, but that doesn’t mean it’ll result in success on the field. The Tom Coughlin tenure is no more as the Giants stayed in-house and promoted offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo to head coach so we’ll see how this all pans out. For the third time in four seasons, the Giants will open the season up against their rivals, the Dallas Cowboys.
Cowboys: Football fans and analysts, myself included have a newfound appreciation for Tony Romo because when he got hurt last season, the Dallas Cowboys didn’t do too well and to be exact, they lost seven games in a row after starting 2-0. To begin the 2016 season, Romo will be sidelined with a back injury and Dak Prescott will be under center for the Cowboys. Along with him in the backfield will be another rookie, Ezekiel Elliott from Ohio State and I really liked that pick for the Cowboys and if he can get it going behind the best offensive line in football and take some pressure off Romo whenever he gets back from his injury, this will be a team to watch. Moving forward, I’m concerned about the Cowboys defense because they always have a hard time getting off the field and quite frankly, some can’t even get on it because of off the field issues. Randy Gregory could easily be the best player on their defense if he could stay away from the drugs. For the second straight season, the Cowboys will face the Giants to begin the season.
Giants Player To Watch: Rashad Jennings– As I said throughout the preseason and at the top of the preview, the Giants need that other offensive player not named Eli or Odell to step it up. Jennings can easily be that guy. I’d feed him the football early on and allow him to get going and bring some much-needed balance to a Giants offense that’s in need of it.
Cowboys Player To Watch: Ezekiel Elliott– He’s a downhill runner and with him in the mix, it could be similar to how Demarco Murray was used in 2014 and look at the season he went on to have. If the Cowboys can get him rolling early on, Prescott will benefit from that and he’ll be able to find hs receivers down the field. The running game still sets up the pass today.
Prediction: The past couple of seasons, they’ve played some games that have been decided by the last two or three minutes and I’m expecting the same in this one. I’m taking the Giants in this game. Giants 26 Cowboys 23
