It’s been another great season in the NFL and we have come down to one more game and two team remain for the goal that everybody sets for themselves in July and that’s to play for the Vince Lombardi trophy in the Super Bowl. The Carolina Panthers were a team that I admit I wrote off after four games because they had a very light schedule in the beginning (Jacksonville, Houston, New Orleans and Tampa), all four of those teams didn’t make the playoffs the previous year and I said they were in trouble without Kelvin Benjamin. I became sold on the Panthers after they beat Seattle in Seattle of all places and two weeks later, they beat the Green Bay Packers and coming into the season, many considered those to be the two best teams in the NFC and look how that worked out. The Panthers are in the position they are in because of one guy and he goes by the name of Mr. Cam Newton.
This season started with Tom Brady on a tear after winning his appeal of his suspension and he had the Patriots in a great position and the MVP was his for the taking. When he started to falter a little bit, that’s where you saw Cam shine and step it up. He will more than likely be our Most Valuable Player this year and rightfully so. Cam Newton has single-handedly carried this team on his shoulders all season long and he’s turned Ted Ginn, Corey Brown and Greg Olsen into household names and he’s made them better, that’s simply what an MVP does and most importantly, he’s having fun while he is on the field. I love the exuberance that this guy shows on the field. You talk about leaving everything on the field and that’s exactly what he does. This year, he’s been known to dance and defensive players and other members of the media have criticized him heavily for it. As a former defensive player myself, if you don’t like something, you prevent them from doing it. Stop whining, man up and play some defense if you don’t like when he dances.
I’ve seen Cam Newton mature so much not just as a football player but as a man. I remember early on in his career after losing a game, you saw the defeat on his face and over the years, he has changed that attitude. You can’t say a negative thing about Cam. He’s a class act that plays the game the right way and most importantly, he’s a fantastic role model for the kids. I admire him for being himself and not worrying what other people think about him.
