Intriguing Game- Week 16
Patriots (12-2) at Jets (9-5)
Patriots– For the seventh straight season, the Patriots have won the AFC East once again and for the sixth straight season, they have earned a first-round bye and the road to the Super Bowl in the AFC will go through the Patriots once again. It’s almost as if we can just pencil them in for the division and a bye every single season. Despite all that success, the Patriots are dealing with injuries left and right. Edelman is on the verge of returning and if I’m a coach on Belichick’s staff, I’m not even starting him because I’d rather have him healthy for the playoffs rather than potentially losing him again in a game that’s meaningless at this point. It’s been a great all-around season for the defending champs and they’ll look to win their third straight game against a divisional rival.
Jets– It’s almost shocking to say this, but the Jets have a very nice offense. They can balance things out with Chris Ivory and they have two receivers on the outside that are very productive. You never this type of spark with Rex Ryan. Ryan Fitzpatrick doesn’t need to do much but manage the clock and take care of the football. In his last game against Dallas, he threw the ball 39 times. The Jets simply won’t win when the game is put in his hands. If the playoffs were to begin today, they’d be out right now but they have two games left to try to get in and they will need a lot of help from other teams for that to happen. It’s rivalry week for the Jets with Brady and company coming to town.
Prediction: When they met earlier this year, the Jets could have easily handed the Patriots their first loss of the season but they committed so many costly penalties in the fourth quarter of that game. The Jets have something to play for so I expect them to come out and play hard. New England on the other hand with a win will clinch the one seed in the AFC. I like the Patriots in this one.
