(5) Michigan State at (4) Iowa
Michigan State: They have been on a momentum shift ever since beating then ranked number one Ohio State a few weeks back in Columbus. What made that victory more impressive was they did it without Connor Cook under center who was sidelined with a shoulder injury. I’ve been high on this team for the last few seasons. Mark Dantonio is a top five head coach in the country, they can balance it out on offense and defensively, they have a front seven that’s so athletic that they can just swarm to the football with ease and make tackles. This is a familiar sight for Sparty as they are back in Indianapolis for the Big Ten title game.
Iowa: Let’s be very real here. How many people thought that the Iowa Hawkeyes would have finished the regular season with an undefeated mark and they’d be in consideration for the College Football Playoff? Not too many at all. Remember, the Big Ten West was Wisconsin’s to dominate. When I watch Iowa, I see so many old school football fundamentals with them. They have a fantastic offensive line that can dominate the trenches up front and open holes for their star running back, Jordan Canzeri. This kid will be a star when he decides to go pro. He’s a 5’9 back that can run downhill and cut on a dime to get into the open field. I love this defense too. They are physical, they hit the point of attack and the secondary has ball Hawks. With a win, they’ll be in the CFP more than likely.
Prediction: Sparty has been here and experienced this. Iowa hasn’t. The biggest key for Iowa will be to play the football that has them here. Lots of Canzeri early on to control the line of scrimmage. I see Michigan State using the same game plan they did against Ohio State. That front seven will be on it and make the Hawkeyes a passing team. I like Sparty in this one. Michigan State 34 Iowa 24
