AFC Game Of The Week
Patriots (10-0) at Broncos (8-2)
Patriots: It’s almost scary how identical this team is with the 2007 team. Remember eight years ago, through the first eight games of the season, New England steamrolled through their opponents and blew them out. After week nine, teams stuck with them but fell short and I’m seeing the same thing with them this year. The offensive line has been an issue for the Patriots and the injuries are piling up. Lewis was lost for the year with a torn ACL, Brady’s go to receiver Julian Edelman broke his foot in the Giants game and Danny Amendola injured his knee last week against Buffalo. Despite that, they sit at 10-0 and in complete control of the AFC yet again. They’ll look to lock up their division on Sunday night in Denver in an AFC showdown.
Broncos: Last Sunday in Chicago was the most complete game they’ve played from the first 15 minutes to the final 15 minutes. The most important thing was that they didn’t turn the football over. That was a routine thing when Peyton Manning was under center but now he’s sidelined with a foot injury and we saw Brock Osweiler win his very first NFL start. The defense got back to its stellar play and this was simply the best the Broncos have looked all year. The gameplan was simple for Osweiler. He just had to take care of the football and they weren’t asking him to throw five touchdowns just stay within your game. This will be the young quarterbacks toughest test with the Super Bowl champions coming to town for a Sunday night showdown.
Prediction: Let’s look at it like this: Bill Belichick lives for situations like this. A young an inexperienced quarterback will be very rattled by a Belichick defense and the Patriots will take away the running game and make Osweiler beat them. On the other side, the Broncos have a legit chance and if I’m Gary Kubiak, I’m considering attacking the Patriots secondary, especially their secondary and third corners (Ryan and Melvin). They’ve had it rough defending receivers all year. In the end, I’m siding with a Belichick game plan. I like the Patriots in this one. Patriots 24 Broncos 21
