Whenever people discuss Aldon Smith, you’ve heard more about his character off the field than him making plays on the field and that raises eyebrows and causes for concern. He’s as talented as they come but his troubles spoke louder than his play. Remember last season when he was suspended for the first nine games because of substance abuse? For the third straight season, Aldon Smith was arrested once again for a DUI and the 49ers decided they’ve had enough and decided to release him.
I’ve been extremely high on him as a football player. He started as a situational pass rusher and then became a full time starter for one of the best defenses in all of football. He has a tremendous first step that gives him the advantage over any offensive lineman trying to block him, he can tackle, has good hands and he can get to the quarterback. He established himself as one of the best defensive players in the NFL and he has such a bright future ahead of him
This has been too big of a problem in the last three years with Aldon Smith. When this first happened in 2013, the 49ers nor the league disciplined him and I was very vocal about that because driving under the influence is nothing to take lightly. Aldon Smith has a problem and this could hurt him in the long run if he doesn’t get the necessary help that’s needed. I truly hope he can get the help and continue his career in the NFL. The 49ers did the right thing by releasing him but who’s to say he won’t do this again if picked up by another team?
