AFC Divisional Playoffs
(4) Colts at (2) Broncos
Colts: Prior to their playoff game against the Bengals, I was curious to see what Colts team would show up? Would we see the team that shut down the Bengals in week seven or the Colts teams that gave up four touchdowns to Jonas Gray and the Patriots or the same team that got blown out when facing the Cowboys? When they take care of the ball like most teams do, they will win football games. I truly feel that for the next few seasons, the Colts will continue to win this division. Andrew Luck will continue to improve and lead this team. The only thing that’s keeping the Colts away from that elite status in the AFC is the inconsistency of a running game. Ahmad Bradshaw was the closest thing they had to a consistent running game and he could catch the ball out the backfield. Having a guy like that gives your offense an added dimension. Last year, Luck battled a legend in this round of the playoffs and this Sunday, he’ll get set for another game with the guy he idolized growing up in Peyton Manning.
Broncos: For the third straight season, they have yet another first-round bye and I think this time off maybe the most important than any of the other years. There were many questions about Peyton as the final month of the season approached because he wasn’t taking games over like we’re accustomed to seeing. He really hasn’t been the same since the Rams game in mid November. I like the Broncos approach on offense. Run the football and let C.J. Anderson get his touches and this offense is showing it can be balanced and they can control the line of scrimmage. The defense is still hit or miss though because you never know what to expect from them. This is the team that has the most to prove especially after the Super Bowl performance last February.
Prediction: For just the third time ever, Peyton will face his former team but more is on the line in this particular match up. A trip to the AFC Title Game to be more specific. The Colts have to keep Luck protected. One of the best pass rushing tandems is featured in this game. How healthy is Peyton? That’ll be answered on Sunday. I like the Broncos in this one.
