Intriguing Game- Week 12
Lions (7-3) at Patriots (8-2)
Lions: I have always felt that the Lions just needed a coaching change in order to win games and Jim Schwartz wasn’t cutting it. Jim Caldwell has instilled discipline and they’ve cut back on the penalties which hurt them a lot last season. Normally, the Lions would start off fast but wouldn’t finish games. Now it seems that they start off slowly but have no problem closing anybody out. The defense is much improved. The defensive line is still one of the best in the league with Suh, Nick Fairley and Ansah. When I look at their offense, Golden Tate in my opinion was the off-season signing of the year because the Lions finally have that second option to take pressure off Megatron. For the Lions to get back on track, they’ll have to get a win in Foxboro.
Patriots: I stated they were the best team prior to their game on Sunday night and they proved just that. The offense does revolve around Rob Gronkowski but they can always add another weapon to that offense and that’s when Jonas Gray had the game of his career. Without Ridley, the Patriots running game was in question. If they can run the football like they did against the Colts and Brady continues to be Brady, this is a team I don’t want to face in January. Their defense is also coming together. Nobody is better at taking away who you want to get the football too like Bill Belichick and the Patriots took away T.Y. Hilton. After that loss in Kansas City, they’ve been a much different team. Their offense is averaging 40 points a game during this winning streak. With a win on Sunday, New England will clinch their fifth straight winning season.
Prediction: The match up to watch for is Revis and Browner defending Golden Tate and Calvin Johnson. It will be very key for the Lions to run the ball to open up the passing game. Keep Brady on the sideline. Another match up to look for is the Patriots offensive front against this Lions front seven. It’s important for the Patriots to protect Brady in this game. I like the Patriots at home in this one. Patriots 45 Lions 24
