AFC Game Of The Week
Patriots (7-2) at Colts (6-3)
Patriots: This is the best team in football right now. At the beginning of the season, the Patriots were struggling to get anything going. After that loss in Kansas City, it’s been a much different story. The offensive line is protecting Brady, Brandon LaFell is a great threat on the outside and the Patriots haven’t had that playmaker as a receiver since the Randy Moss days and Rob Gronkowski has reclaimed his title as the best tight end. When he’s healthy, that entire offense clicks and Brady has his go to guy on the field. Their defense is also clicking right now and they are playing team defense. They aren’t necessarily relying on one guy to make a difference. The Patriots won a huge game against Denver prior to their bye week and I’ve stated that the Patriots need that one seed more than the Broncos. This is a huge game on Sunday night that will determine some things in the playoff picture in the AFC.
Colts: When I previewed the divisions on air, I stated there was one team that could challenge both the Patriots and Broncos and that’s the Indianapolis Colts. Andrew Luck has become a top five quarterback in this league and they will go as far as he takes them. This is a very prolific offense because they have so many people who can beat you whether it’s Wayne, Dwayne Allen, Fleener, Bradshaw, Nicks or Luck’s go to guy, T.Y. Hilton. The big concern for the Colts has been their defense because you never know what to expect from them. A few weeks back, they shut down Andy Dalton and held a Bengals offense to zero points. The next week, they gave up six touchdowns and 51 points to Big Ben and the Steelers. Their defense will determine the outcome of this football come playoff time. The Colts will get another shot against the team who eliminated them in the playoffs ten months ago.
Prediction: This is going to be a great game. The Colts always seem to step up when the elite teams come to town. They beat the 49ers last season in San Francisco, they beat Seattle and they beat Denver so they can definitely hold their own. The Patriots must keep Andrew Luck in the pocket. Don’t let him extend the play or make anything happen with his feet. It’s also key that the Patriots strike early and often. The Colts have to limit Gronk and take away the middle of the field. Force Brady to hand the ball off or throw it outside. I like the Colts at home in this one. Colts 31 Patriots 27
