(3) Ole Miss at (24) LSU
Ole Miss: About two weeks ago, I was asked who are my top four teams in college football right now. I stated that they are Mississippi State, Florida State, Bama and Ole Miss. Heading into the season, there was a lot of hype surrounding quarterback Bo Wallace and he’s lived up to all the expectations so far this season. He’s completed 65% of his passes and has tossed 17 touchdown passes. The biggest strength of this Rebels team is their defense. This is one of the best defensive units in the country. They can rush the passer without having to necessarily load up the box, they can shut down the run and Bo has stated that the defense has made life much easier for him. With a win tonight, Ole Miss will start 8-0 for the first time since 1962 and this will be in a tough environment facing a LSU team who is playing well right now.
LSU: We haven’t heard much about them but this is still a good football team Les Miles has. The past few games, I’ve seen LSU go back to its identity which is running the football, controlling the clock and playing good defense. If you are a physical football team and it’s won you some football games, why get away from what’s helping you win? LSU has one of the best defenses in the SEC. Only giving up 17 points a game. From an offensive perspective, they have a very solid running back who I think is going to be a very solid pro and he goes by the name of Leonard Fournette. He’s made comparisons to some really good backs in the NFL today. This is a huge test for LSU tonight with a streaking Ole Miss team coming to town.
Prediction: I’m expecting this one to be a physical game. You have two teams who rely heavily on good defense to get the job done. LSU has to amp up that pass rush and get to Wallace. Force him to throw sooner rather than later. For Ole Miss, they have to clamp down and stop Fournette. I like Ole Miss to keep winning. Ole Miss 20 LSU 17
