AFC Game Of The Week
Chargers (5-2) at Broncos (5-1)
Chargers– They’ve been one of the few teams that’s off to a hot start. Rivers has played his best football and the Chargers have a very nice receiving core. Keenan Allen is a star in the making, Malcolm Floyd is a big target down the field and in the red-zone and Antonio Gates is a seasoned veteran that can still get the job done. After beating Seattle, they reeled off five wins in a row. The one thing that really concerns me is their defense. Last week, they didn’t even make an attempt to tackle Jamaal Charles in the open field and they have a tough time rushing the passer. Let’s also not forget that they gave up four touchdowns to a rookie quarterback in Derek Carr. For the first time since January, they’ll face Denver in Denver.
Broncos– Everything is starting to gel for them. The one issue they have is an inconsistent running game. If they could get a back who could easily give them 100 yards rushing a game, they are on the right track. The key signings they made on defense are really starting to step up. Ware and Von Miller are ranked numbers one and two on the sacks list this year, Ward and Talib are anchoring the secondary. I think their offense is quicker this year than last year and they set all kinds of records in 2013. Peyton is coming off of making history. DeMariyus is finally stepping up and Julius Thomas could make history among tight ends with the way he’s played this year. This is the first of two big games for the defending AFC champs. San Diego tomorrow night and the much awaited rematch of the AFC Championship rematch against New England.
Prediction– This should be one of those grind it out type of games. Both teams know each other very well. The Chargers have always been a thorn in Peyton’s side even dating back to his days in Indianapolis. The Chargers need to run the ball to keep Peyton and that offense on the sideline. The key aspect for Denver will be to limit Antonio Gates on third down and take away Branden Oliver. I like Denver in this one. Broncos 28 Chargers 20
