(6) Georgia at (24) South Carolina
Georgia: I have raved about him on air and I will continue to do so. Todd Gurley has become one of my favorite players to watch in the country. He’s a guy who can bounce outside and run inside the tackles and when he’s in the open field, he accelerates and he’s a threat to score every single time that he touches the football. This Bulldogs teams as a whole is pretty good when you look at it. The big question was how would Mark Richt replace Aaron Murray? Let’s just say that they haven’t missed a beat at all without him. Georgia begins their SEC schedule against the team that many had finishing ahead of them in the preseason standings and that’s South Carolina. A rivalry renewed and they want nothing more than to silence a hostile environment.
South Carolina: They are sitting at 1-1 but they haven’t looked as sharp as we’ve seen in the first two games of the season. They are without two key players in Connor Shaw and arguably the heart and soul of that defense in JaDeveon Clowney. The defense has really struggled to stop anybody, especially in the passing game. They’ve given up a total of 832 yards passing through the first two games and that also includes a breakout game from Johnny Football’s replacement in Kenny Hill. The GameCocks know that they have to get back on track and they want nothing more than to win a big game over a divisional rival in the Georgia Bulldogs.
Prediction: South Carolina will make it a point of emphasis to load the box and shut down Todd Gurley and rightfully so because that Georgia offense goes through him. Georgia will take advantage of that and that will allow Mason to use his play action and attack that South Carolina secondary. I like Georgia to get a big win on the road today.
