It’s looking like we have these conduct issues in our league just a little bit too much. From Michael Vick to Donte Stallworth to Josh Gordon and now Ray Rice. On February 15th,2014, Ray Rice and his then fiancee Janay Palmer were both arrested and charged with simple assault after an altercation turned physical at a casino in New Jersey. A video would then surface on the internet of Ray dragging Palmer out of an elevator. The Ravens were aware of this and wouldn’t make many comments until the NFL looked into this. Today, Ray Rice was suspended for the first two games of the 2014 season.
I agree with Ray being suspended but the number of games that he was suspended for is a joke. So Roger will suspend suspend a guy six games for an involvement with rape but suspend a head coach for an entire season because he knew about a bounty scandal that was taking place with his defense? He will suspend a guy for two games for striking a woman but he’ll give a player a fine and a suspension for a helmet to helmet hit? No man should ever place his hands on a woman the incorrect way. The league has made its announcement on the suspension but if I’m the Ravens, I would add some games to the suspension. Maybe two or three more. Why not even four? You have to put your hand down in situations like this. Adding onto his suspension will set an example and show other teams that when things like this take place, you have to lay down the law.
Another thing is this: When you aren’t with your team or aren’t at the training facilities, you are a representation not only of the team you play for, you’re a representation of the National Football League. It’s a privilege to play in this league, not a necessity nor requirement.
