(5) 49ers at (1) Seahawks
49ers: This is the hottest team remaining in these playoffs. Last season, the biggest problem with the 49ers defense was their secondary, now they seem close to perfect and they proved why they’re an elite defense Sunday against Carolina. They are also clicking on offense right now as well and having a healthy Crabtree has done wonders for Colin. This is the third straight season that the 49ers are playing for a chance to get to the Super Bowl. I’ve stated this once before, when the 49ers are good, the league is good and I truly believe that Jim Harbaugh has established himself as the second best head coach in the NFL behind Bill Belichick. I think we all had a feeling that the 49ers would see the Seahawks once again and Sunday night will be a battle.
Seahawks: For those of you who’ve heard me speak on air about the Seahawks, I said that this was the best team in the NFL for several reasons. They have a great coach in Pete Carroll, they have speed on offense, a top ten quarterback in Russell and a top five running back in Marshawn, they have speed on defense and they’re good on special teams. Last weekend against New Orleans, I wasn’t impressed from what I saw from these guys. I don’t know if it was the bye week but they didn’t look as sharp as we’ve become accustomed to seeing. This defense had a tough time stopping the screen pass on Saturday. Despite that, the Seahawks are where many people expected them to be and that’s playing for a chance to get to the Super Bowl. With a win on Sunday, the Seahawks will win the NFC for the second time in their franchises history.
Prediction: This is the best rivalry in the NFL right now. When you speak about two teams who strongly dislike each other with a passion, this is it. Let’s look back at the regular season match-ups with these two. In week two, the Seahawks dominated the 49ers. They took away Anquan Boldin and forced Colin to beat them from the pocket and they took away his running lanes. In week 14, San Fran came out on top and defeated the Seahawks. Much more is on the line here in this one with a Super Bowl opportunity up for grabs. I like the 49ers to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl for the second straight season. 49ers 20 Seahawks 17
