AFC Divisional Playoffs
(4) Colts at (2) Patriots
Colts: As remarkable as the 28 point comeback was for the Colts, they just went on to prove my point yet again. They get way too comfortable with getting down in games early and they feel they have that mentality to come back no matter what the situation is. The Colts did that a few times in the regular season and it worked sometimes but not all the time. This is a good team though. They’re a tough and gritty unit who’ll be good for years to come. Luck has shown us all why he was selected first overall. He’s been absolutely fantastic this year. As much as we’ve put so much emphasis on them falling behind in games early, let’s not forget they have defeated some good teams this year. They beat the 49ers in San Francisco, they handed the Seahawks their first loss, they spoiled Peyton’s homecoming and they defeated the Chiefs in Arrowhead. Another big challenge is in their path now, the New England Patriots.
Patriots: I’ve seen Bill Belichick a lot over the years and I honestly think this may be his best job yet as a head coach. This team hasn’t had the best of seasons when it comes to the off-season but they still win. Losing Wes Welker was huge because he makes any offense very dynamic, Gronk was in and out with injuries and has been lost for the season due to a torn ACL and MCL and then there was Aaron Hernandez and his arrest then being charged with first-degree murder. They’ve also lost three key guys on defense as well. Wilfork tore his Achilles, Jerod Mayo torn his pectoral muscle and they just recently lost Brandon Spikes to a knee injury. This is the fourth straight season the Patriots have a first round bye and this is when Tom Brady normally shines and shows why he’s one of the best quarterbacks of all time.
Prediction: I’m really looking forward to this one. The one thing the Patriots will do is take away T.Y. Hilton. He’s been the go to guy on the Colts offense and nobody is better at taking away who you like to get the ball too than Bill Belichick and Bill will also make it a point of emphasis to take away Robert Mathis on the Colts defense. The Patriots to me are the most vulnerable team with a bye. Without Gronk, they’ve struggled in the red zone and in the playoffs, you need to score when in the red zone. The Colts need to take away Julian Edelman, he’s become Brady’s go to guy. I like the Patriots in this one. Patriots 27 Colts 24.
