NFC Wild Card
(6) Saints at (3) Eagles
Saints: The Saints are back in the playoffs for the first time since 2011. I think we all though they’d be the two seed in the NFC because of how well they play at home but they faltered in some of the final games of the season. As good as they were at home, they had a mark of 3-5 on the road this season. They truly are a different team on the road. They have to make many adjustments when on the road and they don’t look as quick on grass like they normally do on turf. Drew Brees has put together yet another remarkable season and Jimmy Graham has become the league elite tight end. The defense has struggled some as of late to stop the run and they will have their hands full Saturday night with one of the very best running backs in the business.
Eagles: At the beginning of the season, I don’t think anybody knew what we’d see from the Eagles. They started out struggling and Michael Vick was turning the ball over and he’s to injury prone for my liking. Chip Kelly made the decision to go with Nick Foles and look where it has them. There’s so much I like about Nick’s game. He lets the play develop down the field and then he gets the football to only where his receivers can get it, he spreads the ball around very well and he can move out the pocket. The biggest piece to this Eagles offense has been LeSean McCoy who is the true definition of what an all-purpose back is. For the first time since 2010, playoff football is back in Philly.
Prediction: Both these teams can light up the scoreboard and put points up. The key for the Saints to me is Darren Sproles. He’s truly Drew’s security blanket because so many defenses will try their best to take away the other weapons on this offense and they all forget about what Sproles can do once the ball is in his hands. The Saints need to come out and pressure Foles early and often. If I’m the Eagles, I want another receiver not named Jimmy Graham or Marques Colston to beat me and I’m attacking Brees from the right side and collapsing his pocket. I like the Eagles in this one.
