(1) Alabama at (4) Auburn
Alabama: For the third straight season, the Tide are on the verge of making their third straight SEC conference title game and their fourth National Championship game in five seasons. It’s been somewhat rocky for the defending champs this year. Their secondary has struggled significantly this season but they still have a zero in the loss column. A.J. McCarron is one of the best quarterbacks in the country and hasn’t really been recognized for it. To me, he should be invited to New York for the Heisman. He’s been consistent and this year we’ve heard so much about Johnny Manziel and Jameis Winston who are also some of the best quarterbacks in the country as well. This afternoon will be the biggest game of the year in Auburn.
Auburn: They could be the biggest surprise in college football this season. I certainly didn’t think these Auburn Tigers would be ranked fourth in the country heading into rivalry week, did you? The last time they were this good, they had a quarterback named Cam Newton who had a fantastic season for them and would go on to win the Heisman that year. What stands out to me about Auburn is their ability to run the football. They’re ranked second in the country in rushing yards per game as they average 320 yards a game. They like to control the line of scrimmage and win the time of possession battle. A win against the defending champs would be huge on Saturday afternoon.
Prediction: Both these teams are contenders heading into this game. Alabama controls its own destiny and Auburn would more than likely need Ohio State or Florida State to lose in order for them to gain ground in the BCS standings. For Alabama to win, they need to make Auburn a passing team. If I’m Auburn, my game plan is simple. I’m mixing it up to confuse this Bama defense. Balance will be essential. I like Auburn to beat the champs on their home soil today. Auburn 28 Alabama 21
