NFC Game Of The Week
Cowboys (5-5) at Giants (4-6)
Cowboys: The Cowboys will always seem to be that team that we can never figure out. One week they look good and the following week they struggle. I don’t put any of the Cowboys struggles on Tony Romo because he’s put together a great season. He’s taken care of the football, he and Dez are a top five qb/wr tandem in the game today and they have a top five offense that can score when given the opportunity. It’s the defense that’s been the weakness of this team. They do everything wrong. They get no pressure on the quarterback, they miss gap assignments and they blow many coverages in the secondary. Just a few weeks ago, I stated on air that I felt this was the most complete team in the NFC East because they were running the ball and playing good defense. A week after I said that, they give up 329 yards receiving to Calvin Johnson. They are still alive to win this division and this is a must-win game for them Sunday in East Rutherford.
Giants: At one time, many gave this Giants team up and said they were done. That was after they lost in Chicago. Now, they’re 4-6 after an 0-6 start to this season. So, how have they done it? When I think back on the Giants as they were losing, everything went wrong for this team. The running game was absent, the offensive line couldn’t protect Eli and Eli turned the football over way too much and on defense, the secondary struggled to defend anybody and that pass rush wasn’t giving the team a spark as a whole. Now, they’ve run the ball well. Andre Brown has given the offense a balanced attack and on defense they’re finally getting after the quarterback and making plays. This game will determine a lot in a division that’s far from decided.
Prediction: You have to love a rivalry game. When the Cowboys and Giants play, so much is always at stake. If I’m the Cowboys, I’m flushing Eli out the pocket because he’s a different player when he has to make things happen with his feet and I’m establishing the running game early. For the Giants to win, that pass rush has to be in full effect and you have to contain Romo and take away Jason Witten and Dez Bryant. Force him to beat you with someone else. I like the Giants to extend that winning streak. Giants 38 Cowboys 34
