AFC Game Of The Week
Chiefs (9-0) at Broncos (8-1)
Chiefs: After nine weeks of the season, none of us would have said the Chiefs would be the only unbeaten team left in the NFL. After being the laughingstock of the NFL most of the 2012 season, they are atop of many people’s power rankings. So how’ve they done it? They have a very stingy defense and they’ve yet to give up 20 points to any opponent so far this year. They have a good game manager in Alex Smith and they’re well coached by one of the best in the business. We are about to see how real this Chiefs team is in the next couple of week. They face this Broncos team twice in a two-week span, The Chargers twice and they play the Colts. They have their toughest tests Sunday at Mile High and they’ll see the Broncos again on December 1st. These two games will ultimately decide the AFC West and the Chiefs want to do nothing more than to make a statement against the team who’s the favorite to win the AFC.
Broncos: I have some concerns about the Broncos. The offensive line seems to be one of the issues on this team. Peyton has taken his fair share of hits in the last few weeks. This goes back to when they played Jacksonville. Defensively, they still have a good front seven that can get pressure on the quarterback but the secondary is still the weakness of the Broncos and teams will continue to attack them until they fix their issues. Just like their opponent on Sunday, the Broncos are entering the tough part of their schedule. San Diego played them tough a week ago. They have the Chiefs Sunday night, New England in a week then another one with the Chiefs in Kansas City. This will be the best defense that this explosive offense has faced all season long. The key will be to make Alex Smith beat them.
Prediction: We’ve been waiting for this game and now it’s finally here. When both teams had undefeated marks, we were hoping that they’d be undefeated as this game approached. 9-0 and 8-1 aren’t too bad either. We all heard about the injury to Peyton’s ankle. If I’m a defender on that Chiefs defense, I’m using that to my advantage and testing his ankle early and often. The Chiefs will rush four and play one safety deep with man coverage underneath. If I’m Denver, you know Jamaal Charles is getting the football. Load the box and make Alex Smith beat you. I like the Broncos to hand Kansas City their first loss of the season. Broncos 31 Chiefs 21
