The face of the Cowboys defense, DeMarcus Ware will be out for 3-4 weeks with a strained quad. DeMarcus has been one of the best players in the league since he’s come into the league because he can simply do it all. He can rush the passer and has been regarded as one of the best pass rushers in our game today. He can tackle in the open field, deflect a pass when he’s been blocked or double teamed and he’s versatile. When he was a linebacker, he could also get down in a three-point stance and line up as an edge rusher. He’s simply a guy you must prepare for and I’ve stated this before that preparing to face a guy like a DeMarcus Ware is very similar to preparing for an offensive player because he draws so much attention. You’ll often hear offensive line coaches say we need to watch out for number 94.
This is a huge loss for the Cowboys because he’s an impact player and he’s a guy who draws so much attention that it allows the other guys on that defense to have more one on one opportunities to get to the quarterback or get an interceptions because DeMarcus usually being defended by two or three guys on every possession. This Cowboys defense has improved so far under first-year coordinator Monte Kiffin. They’ve switched from the 3-4 scheme to a 4-3 which has turned DeMarcus into a full-time defensive end. The Cowboys defense will definitely feel the loss of number 94 for a few weeks but others must step up especially David Lee because they gave this guy a big contract during the off-season to stay with the Cowboys and he’s played well, I’m not knocking that he hasn’t done well, he’ll just need to be that guy that guides this defense for the time being.
