Last week, I talked about the Giants struggles so far this season, now let’s talk about the Steelers because they’ve looked just as bad. Normally, the Steelers are one of the teams we talk about on a regular basis. They’ve been one of the more popular teams in the league for quite some time but let’s be honest here, the Steelers are not the team they once were and we’ve seen that for most of last season and all of this season. They have so many issues right now.
When I look at this Steelers offense, they’re extremely flat as a unit. They can’t generate any type of drive down the field. This is where the absence of Mike Wallace is really seen because he was their playmaker and their big threat down the field. I’m not knocking Antonio Brown or Emmanuel Sanders but those guys aren’t a true number one like a Mike Wallace is. Normally, the Steelers have been known as the team to play smash mouth football and part of playing that type of football involves running the football and the Steelers running game has been horrible this year. They aren’t even averaging 100 yards rushing as a team in the 2013 season and that’s what’s really hurting this team along with turning the ball over and having issues on that offensive line.
When the Steelers get bought up into conversations, their defense always gets bought up and that hasn’t looked that great either. You have to understand that this defense now isn’t the same unit now as it was six or seven seasons ago. Back then, you could depend on this defense to get you a takeaway or two a game and get Ben the ball in good field position or even put points up on the scoreboard themselves. This is an older unit that doesn’t put fear into the opponent anymore. They don’t tackle and make the stops we’ve been accustomed to seeing over the last few seasons and there really are a lot of question marks surrounding this team right now.
